7 hair care mistakes we make during summer holidays

Stiff, unruly, split ends, lifeless – all these problematic hair conditions are typical for summer. To get better looking and vibrant locks, avoid these most common mistakes.

You might be thinking, “What can go wrong in the summer and on vacation? That’s the point of vacation – to relax your hair and that’s the point of vacation. But I disagree. Often when we get home, we find that our locks have lost some of their former luster. And that’s because you’ve made the following mistakes.

  1. Not moisturizing your hair.

Hair is like a sponge: in summer, it instantly absorbs moisture. Naturally, when you swim in the sea or pool, it collects moisture along with chlorine and salt. To prevent these aggressive ingredients from damaging your hair, it’s best to wet it with clean water before swimming. Then the harmful components have no place.

  1. Do not wash your hair after a beach or swimming pool.

Washing your hair after a long day at the beach or pool is just as important as removing your makeup every day. Salt and chlorine residue should be removed thoroughly so it can’t cause harm. It is best to use a mild shampoo that does not contain sulfates.

  1. A walk in the sun with freshly dyed hair

If you have coloured hair, you need to be especially careful. Ultraviolet light can weaken the color and damage the delicate strands of hair after dyeing. So be sure to cover your head – wear a hat, towel or just throw a towel over your head. This is especially helpful if you have dark hair.

  1. Do not wear protective clothing.

So if you’re on holiday at the beach, make sure you use sunscreen not only on your skin but also on your hair. These days there are many handy sprays with SPF protection suitable for all hair types.

Moreover, to ensure perfect protection for the beach, you can simply spray a creamy mask on your hair and then braid it. This way, you will nourish and protect them at the same time.

  1. Swimming in the pool if you have grey hair

Chlorine can chemically react with dyes. This means that, in the worst case scenario, bleached blonde hair can simply take on a greenish tint. So if you want to take a dip in the pool, you’d better put on a bathing cap first.

  1. Improper combing of hair.

Brushing wet hair quickly damages it and makes it brittle. But you should still detangle it after a bath. To do this, first apply a little oil and spread it over the entire length of your hair, then slowly comb it with a soft comb.

  1. Insufficient hair care

After a day in the sun, you need to hydrate and nourish your hair. This is just as important as taking care of your skin after sunbathing. In addition to a mild shampoo, apply a nourishing product such as shea butter, vitamin B5 or panthenol. And don’t forget to visit your hairdresser after your holiday for restorative hair treatments. This will prevent split ends, dullness and lifelessness and keep your hair healthy.
